Meet Haley H. Ballard, M.D., FACP, panelist for our Real Talk event this Wednesday, January 15th. Tickets at the link in our bio.⠀ ⠀ Dr. Ballard was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Auburn University, where she met her future husband, Barry D. Ballard, Jr, MD. After graduating from Auburn Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Spanish, she moved to Mobile, Alabama for medical school. She graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 2010. She went on to complete her residency in Internal Medicine at USA in 2013. She then served as Chief Medical Resident for the Internal Medicine Residency Department before joining USA Health as full faculty in July 2014. ⠀ ⠀ She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine with USA Health, Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and a clinical educator for medical students and residents in the outpatient setting. Her primary career interests are preventive medicine and physician wellness.⠀ When she is not working with medical students and residents, she is caring for her private patients in her clinic at USA Health Mastin Internal Medicine Specialties.⠀ ⠀ She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, serves on the Governor’s Council of the Alabama Chapter of American College of Physicians, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.⠀ ⠀ She and Barry have three children: Ben, Sarah, Brooke, and Louise. She is a member at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.

A Dallas native, Dr. Dempsey graduated magna cum laude with high honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She subsequently attended medical school at The University of Texas in San Antonio. Following medical school, Dr. Dempsey completed her internship and residency in dermatology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she served as chief resident during her final year of training. She has been board-certified in dermatology since 2014, when she moved to her husband, Todd's hometown of Mobile, AL. ⠀ ⠀ Dr. Dempsey enjoys all aspects of dermatology including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and the diagnosis and surgical management of skin cancer. She has a special interest in Cosmetic Dermatology and overall skin health and has extensive training and experience in multiple cosmetic injectables, including Botox, Dysport, Juvederm, and Restylane.⠀ ⠀ Although she takes pride in a very active professional life, Dr. Dempsey's greatest joy comes from her family. We'd like to introduce you to V. Sumana Kumarappa, M.D, Gastroenterology. Dr. Kumarappa is a board certified gastroenterologist with dedicated training and experience in the management of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver. She performs various procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, pH monitoring, manometry etc She graduated from medical school with honors in 2008, in India. She then moved to the United States to pursue a residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine/St. Joseph’s Program and went on to do her fellowship at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. She moved to Mobile in 2016 to join Diagnostic & Medical Clinic. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association and Medical Society of Mobile County. "One of the reasons I moved to Mobile with my family, is the death of female physicians in my specialty here. Women face unique challenges in gastrointestinal health and are often hesitant to seek care. I empathize with them. I want to care for these patients and decrease the gender gap." Dr. Kumarappa has a stellar academic record with honors and medals. She was one of the top 5 finalists at the American College of Gastroenterology GI jeopardy competition held across all the gastroenterology programs in USA. When not working, she enjoys reading books and activities with her daughter Siya and husband Krishna. A native of Mobile, she graduated summa cum laude from The University of Alabama and earned her medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She spent her residency at the Medical College of Georgia's Children's Medical Center in Augusta and served an additional year as Chief Resident. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Order of Fuse and Junior League of Mobile. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the panel begins at 6:30 pm. This unique social event will feature a panel of doctors from across the women’s health spectrum and will provide women with a comfortable and private environment to receive valuable health information along with preventative health screenings. The event is open to the community and ticket price is $15. This is a 21 and older event. Space is limited to 200.
