Irresistible Face Activated: Treats Imminent
There’s been some debate about whether mushroom is real or if she’s just a puppet. The truth is.. she’s both.
How is it that the animals who have been through the most have the most love to give? How is it that Fig was bred to be a coat, lost his foot, his toes, and his eye in that process, and yet has nothing but kindness reflecting in his face?
It was in that moment I realized...I have to buy baby proof locks for my cabinets.
“You got any games on your phone?”
“And we’ll always be friends forever, won’t we?”
Señor floppy tongue is here to bless your feed
Joon goes for a ride.🌞 She loves Moose so much that she cuddles with him the entire time. She doesn’t even get mad when he sits on her...”Do it, squish me”
The sun is shining, The fox is smiling, And everything will be okay
Happy Mother’s Day
Juniper and Elmwood have been best friends this week so here’s 60 seconds of unfiltered affection between them. • This behavior is typically referred to as flea bitting. It’s when an animal uses their front teeth to gently groom through fur, some of you may have had your pet even do this to you before. This can mean that they want a moment to bond, or they could just think you’re dirty. 🤷🏼♀️ • Red foxes typically have kits in the early spring, February-May. During this time they form closer family bonds which allows them to peacefully raise their young. For Juniper her personality shifts from being her normally sassy self, to extremely nurturing and tender with not only the other foxes but also with me and my family. • In previous years she’s taken this time to bond with Fig, but this year she’s decided Elmwood needs ALL of her affection. She’s been delighted to play with him all day and night, spent hours grooming him (much to his displeasure. At the end of the clip you can see her correct him for thinking about moving while she’s cleaning him ), and has overall been attached at his hip. It’s an interesting change to see happen in such a short time. This behavior will usually last all summer and then they will each want their space again around the fall when they would normally begin breeding season in the wild. • If you have a question about fox behavior or any of the animals that reside here be sure to leave it below 👇🏼. “Am thought this planet had gravity?”
It’s Fig’s Third Birthday! 🎉
Two weeks ago my dad passed away. It was both expected and unexpected, as these things usually are. We knew he was sick, but we thought we had more time. I found out after arriving at my parents house a few hours away from where I currently live that he passed while I was on my way to say my last goodbyes. When my mother told me I went straight to the woods behind her house as I did when I was a child. • Under the old oak tree that has long been my companion when my heart is in pieces, was this flower. Simply sitting in the place where I’ve always gone to go within myself. A perfect gift in my time of grief. There were no other flowers in the trees or on the ground. Just this one. I sat for a while with the flower and Moose. • Moose who hasn’t been to my parents home in months, who adores being able to run freely through their woods. Moose, who even though we just arrived at his most favorite place in the world, sat quietly with me in this spot. Thinking back on the moment, I realize how lucky we are to have such intuitive beings to call our friends. There have long been debates about whether animals have the capacity for empathy, but for those of us close to them we are aware that they notice our pain. He sat with me for nearly an hour while I processed my grief as the creek trickled quietly below us, then walked slowly with me back to our old home. • Today and everyday I’m thankful for this dog and each of the animals that give me daily joy. They are the healers of the earth and of our hearts.
A moment between us • Juniper is an extremely affectionate fox. That need for affection grows more and more each year. Most of our interactions together consist of moments like this. Affection, tenderness, and a little play fighting. Who doesn’t love to wrestle with their loved ones?
Slub-A-Dub-Dub I Slobber On All The Things I Love • Opossums are strange creatures who find joy in the little things. Like the delightful way someone’s pillow smells. When opossums really enjoy something they display this behavior which is commonly referred to as “slubbing”. It’s a type of scent marking (that doesn’t smell to us humans ), but let’s other opossums in the area know “hey, this neat thing here, this is mine and I love it”

When I first started this page five years ago I did a lot of educational posts about foxes. How they live in the wild, what they need when they can’t return to that wild life, how living with them affected my daily life. As years went on I slowly stopped doing as many educational posts, I felt like I had said so much so often that it was becoming repetitive, that people were judging me as if I was telling the world no one could live with foxes except for myself. • I want this page to become a place of learning again. Not just about the foxes, but about all of the animals I house here. So today I’d love it if you’d comment any questions you may have below 👇🏼 and this week will be the start of doing more #livingwithjuni posts like I have done in the past! The most liked/common questions will be made into little learning pieces that I hope you all will enjoy! • #figthefoxx
Today we’re celebrating @boyfriendmoose ’s 10th birthday! Please let him know he doesn’t look a day over 7. In honor of our birthday tradition here’s a throwback of Juniper and Moose four years ago. A lot of things have changed since then, but nothing could ever change the love Juniper has for this handsome boy. • I hope everyone is enjoying Birthday season. We still have two birthday’s to go this spring! Fig is coming up on May 3rd and Elmwood’s first birthday is on June 1st!
The most joyful creature that ever lived
Thank you all for your kind wishes yesterday! Poor Herbal had a rough day. I thought he was being extra cute when I took the video in the second slide. I just assumed he was stretching for the first few seconds and then I realized his movement was very abnormal. He continued to stretch in strange ways over and over again. It almost looked like he was writhing in pain. • I immediately booked it to our vet and by the time we arrived he was not wanting to get up at all. The vet had a wait of over an hour and while I waited I reached out to all of the knowledgeable chinchilla people I could think of to see if they had seen anything like this. I was worried it was a neurological issue, that he had some who hurt his spine. They all said it looked like it could be gas or constipation, which initially felt like a huge relief, but chinchilla’s can also die from gas and severe constipation. • Our vet did an X-Ray and sure enough, there were three huge pockets of gas in his stomach. On our way home we grabbed some infant gas relief as recommended. After taking the gas drops and getting his tummy messaged for 30 minutes he began to move around and started acting much more like himself! • This morning he’s back to normal, although very sleepy from yesterday’s events. He’ll have to take gas drops every 12 hours for the next few days, but should be just fine. I can’t tell you all how worried I was, but I’m so thankful that the biggest issue he has is being a gassy bean. 💨
The Easter Bunny We All Deserve
A little backstory on our alien. Before Elmwood came to live with us he was neglected. At only five weeks old he had ear mites, an eye infection, and was crusted with urine from having to sleep where he relieved himself. He’s such a happy and loving fox that I had forgotten his rough beginnings, until scrolling through some old photos this morning, making me all the more thankful that I get to spoil him and the other animals that found their way here. Remember to hug your pet today, some of them have been through a lot before they found you.
