USA and Canada are one of the few countries whose educational institutions attract Indian students. Both the country’s economy heavily depends on international students, amongst whom the majority are Indians. The summer intakes were quite impossible, as the whole world witnessed the lockdown. This caused non-issuance of visas, deferment to fall intakes, delayed fee payments, etc. University will be conducting online classes for its students. Meanwhile, those students who have deferred their intake for January have been advised to enrol in a certification program. the parents of these students are worried about their well-being in a foreign country which has a high number of cases too. The IELTS classes are being held online and its dates have been postponed too. Few universities are even accepting Duolingo scores. The institutions have given it in e-mails that online learning will in no way affect the future work permit of a student. In Canada, the working hours have been increased from 20 hours a week to 40 hours a week. In the USA, international students pay a higher amount of fees which makes a large impact on the economy of the country. Also, the number of Indian students getting admission to good colleges and universities might increases, if at all the USA plans to restrict the admission of Chinese students.

Two COVID-19 test labs inaugurated but waiting for Guj Govt approval Less Testing done in Gujarat is in discussion across every news channel for controlling the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases in the state. In Vadodara on an average daily 120 to 160 tests are done at SSG hospital which is the only government laboratory for whole Central Gujarat. On March 24, Vadodara’s SSG Hospital began diagnostic facility for COVID-19 tests. Samples from Vadodara were earlier sent to BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad. As a plan to increase the testing capacity of Vadodara district two private labs and Parul Sevashram Hospital, Dhiraj General Hospital and GMERS Gotri applied for ICMR (The Indian Council of Medical Research ) approval. Parul Sevashram Hospital started from scratch, establishing a molecular lab, procuring PCR machine and kits, developing all protocols and getting NABL(National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories ) accreditation, and getting ICMR nod. Since 11th May laboratory is ready to conduct tests for Covid-19. On 19th May RT PCR Laboratory was inaugurated by VMC Commissioner and O.S.D Dr. Vinod Rao at Gotri Medical College Hospital which has a capacity of about 200 tests per day. But both of these labs have not got a nod from Gujarat Government to perform tests. Sources in VMC said they are not sure when the approval will be given. Total tests done till date in Vadodara are 8984 and 995 total positive reported cases with 42 deaths.
